Una's new friend

Una's new friend

Una was a little ant walking with her mother.

The ants were marching in a line. They were looking for food.

Una looked around.

She saw yellow flowers.

She saw buzzing bees.

She saw red beetles.

She stopped to look at them. But the ants kept marching.

Soon the ants were gone.

But Una was not alone.

The bees smiled at her. The flowers nodded at her. The beetles did a little dance for her.

Una jumped up and down . “ I love playing with my new friends,” she said.

Una saw a big leaf. What was that? Una peeped. She saw a big, white sugar ball!

“Oooo! What a big sugar ball! Mama will love it.”

Una put her arms around the sugar ball.

“I must take it home,” Una told her friends.

“Take it home,” said her new friends.

Una pulled the sugar ball.

It did not move.

Una pushed the sugar ball.

 It did not move.

 Una pulled. Una pushed.

Una pulled and pushed.

Una pushed and pulled. Una was tired.

But the sugar ball did not move.

Ollie was a red beetle.

He saw Una. She was their new friend.

So he said, “ You pull the ball and I will push the ball”

Ollie pushed the sugar ball. Una pulled the sugar ball.

 It moved!

Ollie pushed harder. Una pulled harder.

Pushed.

Pulled.

The sugar ball was rolling.

Ollie and Una rolled the sugar ball over and over.

They rolled it through the grass.

They rolled it down the path.

They rolled it up to Una’s home.

Una’s mother hugged Una.

She stared at the big ball of sugar. “How did you bring the sugar ball home?

It is so big and you are so small.”

Una held Ollie’s hand, “Ollie helped me. He is my new friend.

Thank you Ollie.”

“Thank you, Una, for being my friend.

Friends always help each other”
